Departure

A buffalo coin I wish I could be.
in your pocket 'along for the ride', so to speak.
A nickel too special
ta be given away.
Er spent on a spree, or tossed by the way.

A buffalo nickel what's carried around
so's you hear where I am by that jingly sound.
And never so guarded
that only you'd see
when you took me from prison of lock and of key.

My edges worn smooth by your gentle caresses.
With a nick and a line where I'm showin' my stresses.
Mellowed with time
polished with love
A buffalo nickel's just special enough.

Oh coin so rare
Oh coin so dear
I wish you spoke
When you were here.
Such a rare find
Among common change
And now the need
To go free range.
Coins like you
Are hard to find
But of great value
When in a bind.
I wish you strength
If you get stuck
But most of all
I wish you luck...

A wheat penny, a buffalo nickel, and a mercury dime:
It is all good anytime.

A wish, a promise, and a secret kept,
I feel my old keeper coins, and like their light heft.

Sometimes I wish I could holler:
Please let me find an ole silver dollar.
