Who Can It Be Now?
I found something interesting just a few minutes ago whilest perusing the Block Island Times site. There's a photographic montage banner ad at the top of the home page for Ballard's, right? As I was glancing past it, I thought, "wow, that guy right there looks familiar". Having lived on BI for fourteen or so years, it wasn't a surprising thought. Then I realized that the familiar looking guy in the picture was none other than a former co-worker of mine from the piano bars in Ft. Lauderdale and Kansas City, Chris Nelson, and that the picture actually isn't a picture of Ballard's at all, but a publicity picture from the website of Chris' latest piano bar of employment in The New York New York Club in Las Vegas. I should know, I just visited the site last week and sent the link to several of our mutual friends who all knew Chris or worked with him.
I just found that very interesting. Are they co-owners of the Las Vegas club or, perhaps, a partner in the New York, New York casino? Dunno. I wonder if Chris knows his picture's up there. As far as I know, he's never actually visited Block Island or performed there, because I think he would have looked me up at the time, but then again...maybe he did and he didn't.
Even more interesting, if you click on the link and go to the Ballard's web page, the picture actually has the subtitle "Ballard's Piano Bar" and the musician billed is "Ivory" Joe Turley whose own webpage link is there and he is most definitely not Chris in the picture. I just wonder why they did that? Maybe Chris did play there for a short gig the last year and a half and I just didn't know...gosh, I love a mystery that might possibly involve copyrights.
If anybody has seen Chris play at Ballard's in the last two years, lemme know, 'k?
Six degrees and all that, eh?
